Date nights are a favorite in my family. We enjoy spending time with each other. Not in the obligatory-married kind of way, but in a we-still-love-each-other kind of way. The hardest part was coming up with new date ideas. What can we do if we don’t want to go out? Here are some date ideas.
1. Color
Bring out your coloring books and hold a contest for the kids!
2. Create a Love Coupons book
Write love favors for your kids on construction papers. You can do anything – from washing the car to cooking dinner to watching your children. Try to be creative when creating a coupon for your loved ones.
3. Dance
Listen to great music and test your dancing skills. You might surprise yourself!
4. Spend a day at the spa
Spend a half hour massaging each other’s feet and bodies. Bring out the bubbles…
5. Decorating the room for the holidays is a great idea.
Dress your room up for the occasion. It is possible to find some adorable decorations for a low price! This sounds cheesy, but it’s a great way to set the mood for an event!
6. Dinner
You and your partner can cook a meal together that both of you will enjoy. Surprise them with their favourite meal.
7. Dessert
Local bakeries are a great place to find your favorite dessert or cheesecake.
8. Dress up
Dress up in your favorite dress or tie. Dress as if you’re going out.
9. Exercise
You can do this …. You could both work out together at the gym or at home.
10. Light a fire
A great fire will set the mood and start your evening. Make a pallet with pillows and blankets.
11. Play Games
Play your favorite board games. Play truth or Dare. If you’ve been married for too long, like I have, play the “Not So Newlywed Game”. This game will make you laugh, reminisce, and perhaps learn new things about your partner.
12. Read more
Share your favorite book with others.
13. Reminisce
You can reminisce on those wonderful family vacations, and the photos taken when your children were young. Better yet, get out your old VHS video (don’t be silly – many can relate) and watch your wedding.
14. Scavenger Hunt
Create a fun scavenger hunt around the house. Be creative! The sky is the limit!
15. Star gaze
Grab some pillows or blankets and enjoy the stars. It’s so romantic.
16. Unplug
Take a break. Take a day off. It’s time to give your full attention and energy to each other.
17. Vacation Planning
You can either create a bucket list together or plan your next dream vacation. Remember to stay away from the computer and avoid discussing money or finances.
18. Wine Tasting
Stock up on all your favorite wines and have a wine tasting party! It is best to do this later in the evening. It’s possible that you are going to bed too early.
19. Create a poem
Write a poem that you can dedicate to someone special. Poems don’t need to rhyme.
20. Watch a Movie
Netflix allows you to relax, unwind and watch movies.
Date nights are a great way to keep your marriage alive. Date nights don’t have to be expensive. You can spice up your weekend or celebrate a special anniversary with them. These inexpensive home ideas will hopefully spark your relationship.
