Here are four practical ways you can make the most out of those travel-size toiletries that accumulate so easily under your bathroom sink.
When we travel, we collect them at hotels. These are leftovers from our vacation. They were a sample that we got for free and put them in a drawer. We get them from the dentist when we go in for an exam. You probably have a collection of travel-sized toiletries in your house. I am always looking for ways to organize and clean up our house. My basket of travel size toiletries seemed like a great candidate.
But here’s the thing, I’m not in any hurry to throw them away. They are stored in a basket under the kitchen sink. I don’t want to clutter up anything else. But I want to have a purpose in mind for all the items we keep around the house. I don’t just want to save things for their own sake.
Four practical ways to use travel size toiletries
This post is for those of you who are in the same situation as we were, and have a lot of these products lying around. Here are four easy ways to get the most from your travel-size toiletries.
Replace full-sized toiletries with travel size products before using regular-sized ones
I’m focusing my attention on this one for our family. This year we will be traveling, but not a lot. We don’t need travel-size toiletries. Before buying full-size products, take stock of the products that you already own and begin to use those you would have bought in full-size. You can stretch your budget by using up products you already own.
As an extra touch of hospitality, create welcome kits to give guests at your home.
Create welcome kits for your guests. This could be friends visiting from out-of-town, parents who are coming to visit or anyone else staying the night. It’s a wonderful way to make your guests feel at home, welcome and cared for. It is also very helpful in the event that they forget any essentials during their stay.
Create “blessing bag” of travel-size toiletries to give to those in need
If you have many samples or unopened toiletries, this third idea will be great for you. Why not create blessing bags for those who are in need? Simple gallon-sized zipper bags can be used to store toiletries and then given away. You can donate these bags to local charities, homeless shelters or to anyone who asks for help. It is a great project for your children to learn about how to help others. Have them help you fill the bags. Talk to them about how important it is to give back. Then, let them come with you when you distribute the bags.
Throw away any open products you won’t use
Last, throw out anything you won’t use. It may sound obvious, but I am often surprised by the items I save thinking I will use them eventually. You should carefully consider if you are going to use the product before saving it. If you will use them, then save them. If not, throw them away. Give them to someone who can use them. Don’t keep them in your home if you don’t intend to use them.
