Friends, happy Monday! This year has gone by so fast that it may sound like small talk. How fast the time is passing! In this month, my baby will turn seven months. How quickly the time passes. Be still my heart.
Last week, I emailed our wedding photographer asking if we could fit in some professional family photos before the babies were no longer babies.
I’m sorry, but I must digress.
Today’s post is a review of Date Night In Box that I am really looking forward to.

It’s not necessary for me to explain that dating your spouse changes when you become a parent. It was no exception in our marriage. Finding quality time to relax and talk with Hubs, as well as enjoy time together, has been difficult for me. I’ll write an entire blog post about this because it’s definitely not easy. But we’ve also had some sweet moments and many learning opportunities.
We tried Date Night In Box, and our only regret was that we hadn’t done so sooner.
Date Night in Box
Date Night In Box is basically a preplanned date that arrives in your mailbox every month with a fun, new theme. The box includes all the necessary details to ensure a successful date at home. Each box comes with a theme guide that includes a suggested meal, recipes, activity ideas, snack suggestions, conversation starters, and a specially selected Spotify playlist for the evening.
The “Aloha Box” featured in the July box was all about Hawaii.
What’s in the Box?
Date Night In Boxes are the perfect way to plan your evening. The Aloha Box includes:
- Date Night In Guide
- There is a guide to everything – a Hawaiian menu, instructions for a game, conversation starters for “table talk”, a link to a themed Spotify playlist that I am still listening to, a language lesson for learning some romantic Hawaiian expressions, and movie suggestions. See? Everything.
- Lei
- Northern Lights Candle makes the most beautiful scented candles. I am not lying. Hubs has heard me mention the candle several times.
- Aloha BINGO cards & game pieces
- The “Lei it on Me” game + 2 pencils
- Konane Game Board and Pieces
- Sweet Maui Onion Potato Chips
- 2 Tropical Themed Cups + Paper Straws
- Tropical Cocktail/Mocktail Mixes from Minute Mixology
Date Night In
To be honest, we didn’t even try the suggested menu. It looked delicious, but Hubs, who is a little picky, didn’t like it, and I did not have the ingredients. Also, I didn’t want to eat an entire meal after the boys had gone to bed. We also saved the chips for later – and I ended up eating them.
We used the Date Night In Guide for most of the date. First, we had some fun trying our hand at some Hawaiian phrases – and got plenty of laughs out of that before moving onto the games part of the box.
These are our favorites.
The first game was called Lei it on me It was my favorite out of the box. Each person was given a set of cards to fill out their answer, and then they were told what the consequences would be if someone else guessed wrong.
We took turns guessing each other’s answers to the questions. I can honestly say I haven’t laughed so hard for a long time.
I was surprised by some of the things that we both correctly guessed. It was fun to see how our choices affected each other. A nice reminder that Hubs likes massages and I like someone else to do the dishes sometimes – and watch a show with me every now and then.
Next, we moved to Konane – the Hawaiian checkers game. It’s very similar to checkers in that you move forward by skipping the other player, but it’s different in that each person has pieces scattered over the board and it doesn’t matter how many of your opponent’s pieces you take – you just don’t want to be stuck without being able to make a move. This game was a great mix of strategy and competitiveness, which is always a good time.
I’ve started teaching this to Little, and Hubs and myself have played it once again. Now, I want to find a way to preserve our board so that we can continue to play it.
Finally, we played Aloha BINGO. I should have said we started the game and saved the remainder for later, because it was getting late. I thought it was a fun way to end a date.
Our Overall Thoughts on the Date Night In Box
I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about the subscription box idea for date night. I was a bit hesitant about the idea of a subscription box for date night. It seemed cheesy, and I wasn’t certain how we would enjoy it. Even before I got it, Hubs agreed that we would make the best of our time, no matter the theme, or the activities.
I can’t even believe we waited this long to try it. I’m looking forward to the date this month.
It was fun to try something “outside the box” (see, what I did there? We wouldn’t normally do. It was great to be reminded how much we love playing games and spending quality time together. It was great to laugh with Hubs.
It was great not to have to leave home. We put the kids to bed, then came downstairs to have our date.
If you’ve never thought of a subscription box for date night or if you’ve thought about it, and are on the fence – I encourage you to give it a shot. I don’t believe you’ll regret your decision.
Why You Should Try Date Night In Box for Yourself
Like I said, I was on the fence about this too – until I actually tried it and now I’m hooked. Here’s why.
Date Night in Box is a Monthly Date
Remember the days when you could count on weekly date nights? I’m with you. Life happens, y’all. I’d like to spend more time dating Hubs but life is busy. The days pass so quickly, and it’s hard to find time for one-on-one time.
Date Night In Box is SO EASY. Everything is in the box, and it will be delivered to your door. You can choose to purchase groceries if you want to follow the suggested menu.
You can even spread out the date night and do it in parts. We’ve played the games many times since our first date.
